The Great Red Herring Chase is a 2009 typing Flash game developed by Jacob Grahn and aeiowu.
Announced in January 2009, it was the first in a series of collaborations that was planned to result in them making one game every day for a month.[1][2] That was quickly scrapped however due to its infeasibility, with them instead settling on a few small games. Effing Hail was released later that April, though the others were shelved when they couldn't find sponsors. Herring Chase was eventually published exclusively on their websites as a test while the other ones (Inkclipse/A Murder in Crowland) were never released.[3][4]
The game was positively received, with reviewers praising its film noir atmosphere, writing and gameplay.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Jayisgames later nominated it for "best word or tabletop" game of the year.[15]
Gameplay[]
Players control a female private eye riding in a taxi who's attempting to catch the head of a criminal organization.
The game is inspired by film noirs from the 1940s and features art, music and dialogue reminiscent of them.
Commands must be typed out to yell at the cabby so he can successfully tail cars. They initially start off basic, gradually increasing in length as players complete levels.
