Blossom Server was an open source server for online multiplayer games. Developed by Jacob Grahn, it was released in 2009 and discontinued in 2011.

A spiritual successor known as Jiber was released in 2017.[1] Blossom Server has also since been made available for download on GitHub.

Name[]

Blossom Server began as Multiplayer Awesome Server before being combined into MultiPlawesome when it was publicly announced.[2] Multi was dropped in the next revision, then it was further simplified into Plossom before receiving its final name.[3]

History[]

Jiggmin first hinted at a "new multiplayer server" in a December 2008 blog before officially revealing it a few days later.[4][2] While not mentioned at the time, Jiggmin later noted Platform Racing 2's server served as the base for Blossom.[5][1]

More news appeared the following year, the most major being that Platform Racing 3 would run off it.[3] Other announcements included how any form of account info could be saved to a database and how it would be made of 2 servers to split the work.[6]

Blossom Server's website launched in April 2009, and the server itself was made downloadable near the end of May.[7][8][9]

Version 1.1 was released in July or August 2009, 1.2 in March 2010, and the final 1.3 revision between March and April 2011.[10][11]

Discontinuation[]

A bulletin was posted on Blossom Server's homepage in early 2011 saying a 2.0 version would be out soon. While the original remained downloadable in the meantime, it was no longer supported.[12] The site however shut down later that year for unknown reasons before it was released.

Blossom 2.0 was finished however, and people could get a copy of it by emailing Jiggmin. He still received email requests as late as 2017, which partially inspired him to make Jiber.[1]

He later released Blossom Server on GitHub in 2020.
